I don’t buy luggage often, but when I do, I buy it to last. That philosophy is exactly how I ended up with seven pieces of TUMI luggage over the years. Not because it’s trendy. Not because it’s everywhere. But because it quietly does its job exceptionally well, trip after trip.
Let’s start with the obvious. TUMI luggage is expensive. There’s no pretending otherwise. But in my experience, it’s one of those rare purchases where the cost aligns with the value. Warranty, Repairs, and Long-Term Value
TUMI offers a five-year limited warranty, which already puts it ahead of many competitors. But what truly sold me on the brand was what happened outside of warranty.
On one trip with multiple connections and a lot of luggage being slung around, the telescopic handle completely broke off one of my suitcases. This wasn’t cosmetic damage. It was fully broken. That particular piece was already out of warranty, so I assumed I’d need to replace it.
Instead, I took it into a TUMI store. For about $100 to $150, they repaired it. When it was returned to me, it looked and functioned like new. Smooth handle. Solid structure. No upsell. No pressure to buy something new.
That moment sealed it for me.
Real Travel Test: A Long Trip to Tuscany
Last summer, we took a long trip to Tuscany, and we did not travel light. Between my bags, my husband’s, and Isla’s Minnie Mouse suitcase (she’s nine and priorities are priorities), we checked nine suitcases.
